Emma Tarrant | The JCN Clinic Team

Meet Emma Tarrant, the newest member of the JCN Clinic team! Emma has a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine) and a Bachelor of Psychological Science. Emma is also a qualified personal trainer with numerous qualifications in the fitness industry. We are proud to have Emma with such a wonderful gamut of skills here at the JCN Clinic.

Emma is truly the perfect fit for the JCN team, as she has a huge amount of passion for nutritional medicine, alongside her love of cooking and food in general. You will be seeing a lot more of Emma at the JCN Clinic, so lets take this opportunity to formally introduce this shining new smile to the JCN team.

Hi Emma! Tell us a bit about yourself and where you are from.

Hello! A bit about myself – where do I start? I am a nutritionist but I also work as a personal trainer. I really believe that holistic health comes from combining proper nutrition, physical movement and positive thought patterns, as you can’t be completely healthy without one of these vital components. I am a Brisbane girl through and through! I was born here, I grew up here, and I’m still here – I love the sunny weather and mild winters. I currently reside on the north side of Brisbane with my fiancé and 2 cats.

What drew you to a career in nutrition?

I have always been interested in nutrition, but I guess it was the missing piece of the puzzle for me. I had studied psychology – I was fascinated at why we do the things we do. I had studied fitness – I helped clients achieve physical fitness on a daily basis. So it was naturally the next thing to study – and it has by far been the most rewarding for me as I can see how fundamental it is to health and wellbeing.

What does ‘healthy eating’ mean to you?

Healthy eating to me is not about restriction, counting calories, macros or following a specific diet. It is about eating what makes you feel good, gives you energy, mental clarity and balance. I also believe that it is important to listen to your body. What may work for one person may not work for the next person, and our bodies are so intelligent – if we dial into the cues it is giving us, there are a lot of answers.

I know you love getting in the kitchen and creating meals. What are some of your favourite creations?

One of my favourite things to do is to be in the kitchen! I love creating baked goods like breads and muffins, but I also love creating exciting salads and putting unsuspecting ingredients in them, such as strawberries, blueberries, oranges, roast veggies, fresh greens and different nuts and seeds.

What are three staple ingredients you can simply cannot live without in your pantry/kitchen?

Oh, definitely extra virgin olive oil (I use this on almost everything), plant-based milk (almond, macadamia, cashew or coconut) and any type of nut butter (usually almond or peanut butter)!

Do you have a cooking idol? Someone who inspires you in the kitchen?

Honestly – you, Jessica Cox! I think I have tried almost every one of your recipes to date, and they always turn out well! Apart from that, I do love Teresa Cutter’s simple yet balanced approach to cooking.

What are your interests outside the jcn clinic?

I love getting active – exercise is my “me” time and I do it for the mental benefits too! I also am a crazy cat lady. I am constantly talking to, and taking photos of my two cats.  And I’m not even ashamed of it.

Where can we find you on social media & join in on everything that you share?

My business is called Unrefined Health and Wellness – you can find me on Instagram at @unrefined_healthandwellness or facebook.com/unrefinedhealthandwellness.

Emma is available for consultations at the JCN Clinic on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. To make a booking with Emma please contact us at the JCN Clinic reception or book online here
